Problems

I haven’t given up on the liveblog, I’ve just run into a problem of motivation.

I recorded an Alexlivevlogs episode. In it I do the mission with the misplaced First Contact War bomb and start Bring down the sky. The problem I have encountered is that all of the audio is overlaid by a regular and very distracting scraping noise. I have no idea what the source of the noise was but before posting the video I would have to edit the audio to remove it.

I can’t do that. I do not have the technology. So I’m a bit stuck. What do I do now?

I am compiling a list of planets I need to revisit at a later date.

It goes something like this:

GDI ME1.

The soothing touch of the rejection of truth- or why I’m romancing Liara again.

Some people who have seen my previous Mass Effect playthrough as Xander Shepard might say “Alex, why are you romancing Liara again? Why not somebody different this time, like Kaidan, or Thane, or Garrus, or Traynor?”

Okay, I would never ever romance Garrus, it would be too weird; Traynor’s a proper sweetie but her voice is way too annoying and Thane’s romance is a guaranteed spiral into melancholy but you get the point. Why am I romancing Liara again?

Because this is a liveblog, and I feel in a liveblog I should do all the parts of all the games. That’s why I’m doing Bring Down The Sky in this ME1 playthrough.

How is that relevant? Because for me, romancing Liara is a prerequisite condition to playing Lair of the Shadow Broker.

Post ME1, Bioware made a lot of foolish and reckless decisions about Liara. One of them was the fact that their own colossal throbbing hardon for the character apparently prevented them from seeing they were fucking up both her character and the rest of the narrative. One of the ‘mistakes’ they made was not giving Liara different friendship/romance dialogue, especially in LotSB.

I prefer to pretend this didn’t happen. LotSB is my Favourite, FAVOURITE DLC and I’d prefer it if Liara’s sly, flirtatious jokes were reserved for Liaramancer Shepard (as they should be) and not spattered across the whole ME2 spectrum like the remains of a careless driver. I cannot do LotSB without romancing Liara. It’s too painful. It reminds me of Bioware’s every fuck-up before the travesty of the ME3 endings.

To summarise: Shadow Broker requires Liaramance. Liveblog requires Shadow Broker. Therefore Liveblog requires Liaramance.
